Scott Bywater Scott studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London with Kurt-Hans Goedicke, Neil Percy, Stephen Quigley and Nicholas Cole.  

On graduating he concentrated on orchestral playing and in his freelance career to date has had the privilege of working with some of the world’s great conductors and has particularly enjoyed working with Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davies, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Mistlav Rostropovich, Michael Tilson-Thomas, Vernon Handley, Leonard Slatkin, Valery Gergiev and Daniel Gatti.

He has performed with Britain’s finest Orchestras including The London Symphony, The Royal Philharmonic, The Bournemouth Symphony, English National Opera, The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The Phiharmonia, The Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Scottish National, The BBC Symphony, The BBC Concert, The Britten Sinfonia, The City of London Sinfonia and The London Mozart Players. 

His freelance career has enabled him to travel extensively with many of the ensembles he has been engaged by, notably touring South America in 1996.  

His enthusiasm for Early Music and Authentic Performance has led him to perform some of the Baroque repertoires masterpieces with such ensembles as The Academy of Ancient Music, The Gabrieli Consort and The Hanover Band, with such conductors as Christopher Hogwood, Paul Macreesh, Richard Egarr and Sir Charles Mackerras and touring Europe extensively with these groups. Although also freelancing on Percussion, he specialises as a Timpanist and has enjoyed recent performances of Billy Budd at ENO, Mahler’s Second with the RPO and Berlioz’s Fantastic Symphony with The Bournemouth Symphony and London Symphony Orchestras.
