 Acknowledged to have excellent musical skills and virtuoso performances, Axoum Duo include an eclectic repertoire compiling the best kinds of present-day music. Their accurate technique and innovative vision of music have enabled them to explore their instruments and make up new vocal ranges and thus, opening up amazing musical horizons. Fully commited to today`s music, they have created various pieces, some of which have been dedicated to them.
The duo formed in Paris in 2000 by Elwira Slazak and Gabriel Collet, is the first marimba duo associating flawless technique and beautiful tone (sound). They have performed in France , Belgium, Poland, Germany and Azerbaijan. Their maturity and masterly interpretation of contemporary music at different concerts in Europe (Germany “Braunshweig Festival Classix”, France, Belgium, Poland, Azerbaijan…) has always met with enthusiasm and the thunderous applause of the audience. They graduated with the highest distinctions in Paris and Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. They continued their music education during postgraduate studies in the class of the world`s famous marimbist Ludwig Albert at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp obtaining a diploma with the highest honour. Winners at the VIII International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Cracow (Poland) in 2004, Axoum Duo was the first marimba duo to win the First Prize.The same year they were awarded the II prize at the International Marimba Duo Competition in Belgium . They are recipients of a grant from "The Sir Georges Solti Foundation" in London in 2004 as promising young talents. Axoum Duo was also awarded the top prizes at the International Music Competition in Belgium, the VII annual International Krzysztof Penderecki Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Cracow, Prix Robert Luffin . Their first CD recording has been released in july 2006, with the first recordings of the original pieces written for marimba duo. |
