 Alonso Mendoza was born in Mexico City, he is also a British citizen.
He studied at the National School of Music of the University of Mexico, finishing with first honours in 1992. During his time in Mexico he has been Soloist with the major Symphony Orchestras in Mexico, he was member of the ensemble “The Mexican Soloists” touring in Europe and America. For more than ten years he was member of the Percussion Ensemble of the University of Mexico, premiering and recording the work of the most important Mexican Composers, playing more than 500 concerts at the most important festivals in the Country. In the Summer of 1996 he completed successfully a 3 year Master’s degree at The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, in Holland. Supported by a Scholarship from the University and the Arts Council of Mexico. He has been involved in a large number of Conferences, Master courses, Seminars and Workshops, in Alderborough (England), The Fierenmusik in Darmstad (Germany) and at the Ircarm in Paris (France) and on several occasions at the Percussive Arts Society International Conventions in the USA In march 02/ Alonso completed a successfully residence at the University of Leicester, the Final event “LATIDOS” a multicultural drumming installation the biggest production of its kind at the university attracted more than 800 people in two days, having its first revival in the city of Coventry Last April He regularly gives workshops in Latin music for a diverse groups of peoples including Peoples with disabilities and learning difficulties Alonso, lectures Percussion at the Birmingham Conservatoire and Lectures Music at the Music Technology department of De Monfort University in Leicester. He has also performed several occasions with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, including at the Proms at The Royal Albert Hall.
