New Owners at Southern Percussion. We caught up with Katy and Alison, who were both keen to tell us what we can expect from them, and what the future holds for Southern Percussion. Questions A: We are loving it! It’s great to be running a company in an industry you are so passionate about, although it is a lot of hard work. K: Its like waking up each day in a giant sweet shop. We have over 6000 percussion music books in stock and I just want to spend every moment trying out new pieces. I always thought that the repertoire for a percussionist was very limited but I have been proven wrong. Now that we have our website up and running hopefully I will have slightly more time to explore! EP: Whilst we are on the topic of your website, we have notice a lot of changes and a new logo. K: We have tried to make our website as easy to use and as helpful as possible to our customers. Not only can you order and pay online but we now have an advanced search function that allows you to search for specific instruments, difficulty and number of players etc giving the customer a much bigger choice. A: We list as many details as possible for each piece and include a sample page. In the future we like to also to include a recording of the music and we also would like people to leave comments. EP: So is it just music that you sell? A&K: No!! A: Although it is only music on our site we are currently updating our database- a long process- to include our stock of CDs, DVDs, accessories and of course sticks and mallets. K: We are the only people in the country who stock innovative mallets which feature the Zivkovic range. They are available now, so customers can just give us a call. EP: So what are your plans for the future? A: We want to carry on expanding our stock and discovering new and exciting pieces that will be of great interest to the percussive world. K: We also publish our own music and are working with various composers at the moment. We will shortly be bringing some “popular” ensemble titles to the market. EP: Thank you Southern Percussion. Is there anything else you would like to add? K: Just one more thing! Our customers are always welcome to come down and visit us at our base in Essex to look through our stock and try out the mallets. Although we have the website, we are not just an internet company so we look forward to seeing some of you during this New Year.
