Unfortunately, the Percussion Day planned for Sunday 11th February has had to be CANCELLED due to the poor conditions at and near Brynglas House. Students who were going to be auditioned for the National Ensembles will be contacted shortly with alternative arrangements.

This event is presented by Gwent Music Support Service in conjunction with the National Youth Arts Wales for the benefit of young percussionists in the Principality.  Inspiration for the day came from the huge numbers of percussion and drum students learning through the eleven tutors of the Gwent service, numbers of students now tops 1000!!

Gwent students have consistently achieved high standards as individuals and in groups providing the majority of players at National level over the past ten years whilst the ever evolving Greater Gwent Percussion Ensemble have achieved Highly Commended and Outstanding Performance awards at the National Festival of Music for Youth in the past 4 years culminating in an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in the School Proms 2005.  More recently, current student Ben Williams, 15, was one of 12 finalists at last week's Young Drummer of the Year competition 2007.

The day features 3 percussion workshops in the morning with professional percussionists Jon Helm, Chris Stock & Phil Girling.  These workshops will cater for ability groups of beginner to Grade 2, Grades 3 - 5, then Grades 6 - 8.

Auditions for the National Youth Wind Symphonia Wales will run alongside the workshops.

The afternoon session features the fabulous session drummer Ralph Salmins (Robbie Williams-Swing When You're Winning) entertaining and answering questions while the whole day ends with a mass play led by the charismatic Samba educator Adrian Wiggins.
