RNCM Day of Percussion We've programmed artists to both entertain and educate you to the highest level in all aspects of drums and percussion. The artists appearing this year are covering marimba through to drum-kit, via the Irish bodhrán, in musical settings relevant to all. Please see below for a full programme listing - whether you are new to the event or have been many times before, I'm sure there will be much for you to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you! Ian Wright artistic director 50 Years in the Life of the Bodhran Renowned German player, Rolf Wagels, leads us through the history of the bodhrán. He will demonstrate the development of different styles and techniques and the role the bodhrán plays in traditional Irish music. Reading and Interpreting Drum Charts Reading music often lets many drummers down. Dave Hassell explains his approach to interpreting charts and how to articulate 'the dots'. Along with a rhythm section, Dave will demonstrate the skills required to allow musical freedom whilst playing 'off the page'. Four Steps to Feel Better on the Marimba French marimba player, Eric Sammut, demonstrates through musical examples how the physical and mental approach to playing can improve our enjoyment and performance on the concert marimba. The Brass Band Percussionist Simone Rebello presents an insight into the role of percussion in the modern brass band from the perspective of a section player, soloist and adjudicator. Electronics and the Drum Kit Andy Gangadeen, one of the UK's most popular drummers, brings his vast experience of electronic drums to show how you can incorporate electronic technology into your playing without it taking over your performance. Sound, Stroke, Stick, Symphony Ian Wright explores timpani parts from Handel to the present day, focusing on different musical styles, the varying techniques required and how this knowledge can help timpanists who are just beginning to play. Evening Concert 7.30pm Haden Freeman Concert Hall Eric Sammut, together with the RNCM Percussion Ensemble plays a selection of his own solo and ensemble compositions. Full Day Ticket: £20.50 Promoted by RNCM Drumming Workshop An opportunity for young people to explore exciting ways to play percussion.
