10/01/07 The London Philharmonic Orchestra joined by percussionist Colin Currie for a performance of James MacMillan's Veni Veni Emmanuel, conducted by Marin Alsop on Saturday 10 February at 7.30pm at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre.
The shattering impact of James MacMillan's concerto for percussion Veni, Veni Emmanuel - which has lost none of its force over the course of its 300 performances in 14 years - sits comfortably alongside the fate-filled opening bars of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. MacMillan's work is that most rare phenomenon - a modern classic. Colin Currie has an established reputation for his charismatic and virtuosic performances of works by today's leading composers. Regularly commissioning and recording new works, he has made an inspirational and innovative contribution to the percussion repertoire and this performance will be his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert also includes Beethoven's Symphony 5 and Samuel Barber's Symphony 1. Tickets are available from the London Philharmonic Orchestra box office on 020 7840 4242 (Mon-Fri, 10am-5pm, no booking fee) |
