dave danford South Bank Debut for Danford
Dave Danford will be making his solo debut at London’s South Bank Centre on Friday 31st October 2008.

Dave will be performing a solo recital as part of the Friday Lunch series, a series of weekly concerts featuring a range of different musical genres with an emphasis on small-scale classical and contemporary music.

The London date forms part of Dave’s autumn solo recital series which launched at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama on Friday 24th October and continued at Wales Millennium Centre on Saturday 25th October. The repertoire for the tour features a number of brand new commissions including Mutual Marimba Music, a four-movement concert piece for marimba and piano by Peter R. Birkby and Nightlife, a set of three pieces for marimba and piano by Gareth Wood. A number of solo percussion classics also feature in the programme including Virginia Tate by Paul Smadbeck and Keiko Abe’s Dream of the Cherry Blossoms, both for solo marimba.

Dave is accompanied throughout the tour by Nicola Rose (piano) and will also be joined on a number of dates (including the South Bank Centre) by Joel Garthwaite (saxophone). The two have been performing as a duo since 2004 and their current repertoire includes a recent commission from Andrew Keeling and a brand new piece for soprano saxophone and marimba by critically acclaimed jazz artist Dave Stapleton.

The South Bank Centre concert takes place on Level 2 at 1.00pm on Friday 31st October 2008.
