Busy times for Dave Danford, After a busy 2007 which saw the release of his debut solo album and a subsequent promotional tour of the UK, percussionist Dave Danford is getting set for a bumper schedule in 2008.
The core of this schedule will consist of three individual solo tours. The larger-scale of these is the RVW Tour, a tribute to Ralph Vaughan Williams commemorating the 50th anniversary of the composer’s passing. The major work for the tour is Dave’s arrangement of Concerto Accademico for marimba and vibraphone which will be performed with string orchestras around the country. The premiere of the concerto along with the launch of the tour will take place at the Royal Northern College of Music with the RNCM String Orchestra. The second tour is a solo recital tour featuring Dave’s regular accompanist Nicola Rose and saxophonist Joel Garthwaite. Fresh repertoire is very much in focus here, with new commissions currently on the way from Andrew Keeling, Dave Stapleton and Gareth Wood. This new programme will be premiered as part of Dave’s involvement in the 2008 Percussion Day at the Royal Northern College of Music with subsequent dates including a visit to the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. The third tour for next year builds on the success of Dave’s brass band solo appearances in 2007, which included Burry Port Town Band, Cory Band and Tredegar Town Band. The main work will be Dave’s arrangement of Ney Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba (commissioned for the 2007 European Solo Competition for Brass & Percussion) and the tour will conclude with a course and concert with Cornwall Youth Brass Band in December 2008.
