Gavin Pritchard has anounced his decision to leave the National Champions. After a very happy and successful 2½ years, Gavin Pritchard has announced that he is leaving the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Highlights
"I have enjoyed many memorable contests, concerts and recordings with the band, not least the many solos I have played at concerts, on CD and on DVD. One of the highlights was at Brass in Concert 2005 where I performed the widely acclaimed duet, 'Listeria' with my friend Will Martin which was written especially for this performance by Sandy Smith."Since moving with the family to South Wales last year, Gavin was finding it impossible to commit 100% to rehearsals and the band’s busy schedule of 50 or so engagements a year. This coupled with his heavy work commitment towards the current expansion of JAGRINS (his and his father’s music publication business) has also contributed to his decision.
Great musical experience
Gavin is very grateful for the opportunity playing with Grimethorpe gave him. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the band and Allan Withington for a great musical experience and for giving me the one major championship win at London in 2006 that I had not won before."
Gavin is now keen to pursue his career as a marimba soloist having recently been asked to become an Adams artist. On top of his busy work schedule and preparing for his first Solo CD, he is also taking part in the European Soloist Championships in Birmingham at the end of April/beginning of May. |
